Eyebrows are always trending. We all want the revered “eyebrows on fleek. They make us more expressive and put together.
First up, if you don’t know what it is, microblading is a procedure that aims to enhance your eyebrows by using tiny blades to create hairlike incisions in the upper layers of the skin and fill those incisions with pigment (ink), giving the illusion of more hairs. This fills out your brows and you have control of what shape you want them to take. Also, you will wake up every morning with the same set of brows as the day before regardless of whether you are having a bad makeup day or not.
As a person with about 14 eyebrow hairs to my name, microblading is heaven-sent.
Here’s how you know whether it’s a good idea or a bad idea though.
Microblading isn’t exclusively for thin or space eyebrows, if you have full eyebrows it can help define their shape. But, it does really make a huge difference for the former. So if you get up every morning and have to draw your eyebrows on this will save you time.
As you can imagine though definition takes precision. It’s only a good idea if you get a qualified technician to do it as the results can last for up to 3 years. You want to choose a microblade artist who has some decent experience and who is a bit of a perfectionist. Someone who understands the curvature of the face, the natural dimensions that are most flattering for eyebrows, and that will do it gently and hygienically. Colour matching is also really important.
Don’t confuse microblading with microshading – a process in which a technician will essentially just colour in the skin behind the eyebrow to make the eyebrows more prominent, it can look beautiful but it looks “done up” so you will look like you have your make up on when you first wake up. Microshading looks more like you’ve applied a powder to your brows. Microblading offers more natural results. Ironically, microshading takes longer, is pricier, and can fade in as little as 3 months. Not to be biased, but there is an obvious champion here.
Microblading FAQ:
Does it hurt?
Only mild discomfort is felt during the procedure. To put it honestly, it’s just an annoying feeling. You wouldn’t call it pain.
How long will it last?
Unlike a tattoo, microblading will only last between 17 and 24 months.
How much recovery is necessary?
While there is no recovery time, there is a risk of infection so keeping your freshly microbladed eyebrows clean is of utmost importance. We also suggest using Bepanthen daily until the scabbing stops. Don’t pick at them either when they scab (which is normal) as the ink may bleed out. They take about 2 weeks to heal.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t do microblading?
It’s not recommended for those who are breastfeeding or pregnant. Also if you have very sensitive skin, eczema, or rosacea it may not produce the results you are hoping for. Your technician should be able to assess whether you’re a good candidate on inspection though.
How will you know where to put the hairs?
We will draw on the eyebrow shape first as a guide beforehand using measuring tools to make sure they are even and suit your face. Once they are drawn you can have a look and approve the shape BEFORE we start applying the pigment.
Anything else I should know?
Avoid anything that thins your blood leading up to your appointment if possible. Skip the alcohol, Disprins, and don’t smoke before the procedure. You should also avoid waxing or tweezing and maybe leave your botox appointment for two weeks after your microblading. COme with clean brows if possible. We will clean them when you arrive but the less vigorously we have to scrub your eyebrows the better.
In conclusion, Microblading is a great idea if you choose the right technician and take good care of them while they heal.
